| Is your church affiliated with any denomination?
Our congregation is part of an international church body known as the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A mainline Protestant church, the Disciples is
the oldest denomination started in America. There are nearly 3,800 congregations
throughout the United States and Canada.
| What is that denomination like?
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
was founded by those who felt
that it should be possible for all Christians to worship together, even
when they hold differing theologies. All those who believe in Christ as
their Lord are welcome, regardless of their faith background. This is an
excellent place for families with different faith backgrounds.
| What do you believe about baptism?
We practice believer's baptism. This means that we baptize by immersion
those who are of an age that they can make a confession of faith and choose
for themselves to embrace Christianity. Those who come from other
religious backgrounds where they have been baptized as infants or by some
form other than immersion are not required to be re-baptized. This is
known as "open membership."
| How often do you have communion?
We celebrate the Lord's Supper every week. All who believe in Christ as
their Lord are welcome to participate, regardless of church membership.
| What's the deal with that red cup symbol?
The chalice symbolizes the central place of communion in worship for the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
The X-shaped cross of the disciple Andrew is a reminder of the ministry of each person
and the importance of evangelism.
